This photographic exhibition – by acclaimed food photographer Bill Milne – features a series of Italian foods that speak to the ancient Mediterranean roots of Italy’s culinary traditions. The history of Italian cuisine through the centuries is steeped in its Mediterranean past, sharing several ingredients and common practices found all over the Mediterranean basin. The exhibition will bring the viewer from North to South on a culinary journey pairing typical dishes to their original location throughout the Italian Peninsula.
Co-presented by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto and the Canadian Institute for Mediterranean Studies.
ABOUT BILL MILNE
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Bill studied photography at Toronto Metropolitan University.
His studio is located on 19th Street in the heart of the Chelsea district in New York City.
Bill’s work has appeared in thousands of publications and advertisements all over the world. Some of his most recent advertising clients include Kraft Foods, Nabisco, Moet Hennessy, Snapple, Viking, Nathans Famous, Smirnoff, AT&T, and American Express. He has enjoyed photographing many world-renowned premier chefs, their food, and their restaurants. He most often shoots for Michelin-starred Chef Daniel Boulud and his restaurants in Singapore, Miami, New York, Montreal, and Toronto. Bill and friend Chef Grant MacPherson have spent years working on national and international brands in over a dozen countries and over a hundred cities. Cynthia Hollidge, owner of food marketing firm CCS Creative has worked with Milne for almost 20 years, making him a trusted partner in the production of imagery for her clients.
Bill has been featured as a principal photographer, writer and/or designer in over 150 books on food and alcohol. Brochures, videos for websites and social media images define the new scope of work. This now features photographic stories and multi-images. These must keep current with styles, trends and ever-changing client needs. Bill never thought a drone would be useful to a food photographer, but it is just another tool to help tell a story with a client or a brand.
