ABOUT THE EVENT

Join us for the release of Sonia Aimy’s new album, “Light Imole”!

This ten-track album is a wonderful combination of storytelling inspired by Sonia’s birthplace, Nigeria, and her global experiences and perspectives on life, occurrences, and aspirations. The album’s purpose is twofold. Firstly, it represents Sonia’s desire to continue flourishing as an artist. Secondly, it showcases the African styles of music – Afrobeat, Highlife, Afropop, and Spiritual – in an authentic, extensive, beautiful, and innovative manner.

Sonia’s music seeks to inspire other artists, audiences, and anyone drawn to her music or interested in learning about her artistry. Her music addresses issues that affect us, our emotions, and our hopes and aspirations as souls of this beautiful Earth.

Her music combines storytelling, chanting, and singing from her birthplace, Benin City, Nigeria, and Italy, where she lived from her teens into adulthood. Many agree that her singing style is soothing and shimmering, with a sprinkle of chanting, evoking an easy flowing yet captivating and melodic singing style.

The album was produced by Sonia Aimy, Jerry Harrison-Uke, Peter Lasisi, Piero De Prete and Eddie Bullen, featuring Esther Jane Willow, a MI’Kmaq singer songwriter on a track titled “Sel Senapa”.

Sonia will be accompanied by her band members, some of the best African musicians in the GTA. The band includes a keyboard, a guitar, a bass guitar, a saxophone, a talking drum/conga, drums, and two backup vocalists.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sonia Aimy reconnects with her creative heart via quarantine-inspired reflections and self-realization on her latest album Reconnect (released worldwide on October 1st, 2021 via Slammin Media). For almost as long as she can remember now, Sonia Aimy has been on the go. In fact, since she started touring widely as a musician at the young age of 23, she can’t recall having lingered in any one city for more than a few months at a time or having ever really stopped to take some time off for herself away from the stage, from the relentless creative output, or from her many humanitarian passion projects that brought her from Nigeria, to Italy, to Canada.
