20th Edition Week of the Italian Language in the World: ROMICS EVENTS

The international festival of comics, animation, cinema and games, ROMICS, in collaboration with the Cultural Institutes of Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington DC, and Under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic of Italy,presents a series of events centered on the changes to the iconic characters of Italian and international comics and graphic novels.  

Attention will be given to: the innovative and international impact of Disney Italia; graphic novels; narrative impact; the introduction of new narrative languages ​​and rhythms. There will also be a journey behind the scenes of a comic book that sees Diabolik as the protagonist of a dialogue on how to arrive at that extraordinary alchemy between story and image.

The series of events will offer a point of view and an analysis, thanks to the presence of authors, professionals and academics, on the changes in language and narrative rhythms. A focus on the Disney world, where professional and authorial figures who have been working for years in the Disney scene will intervene (Alex Bertani, editorial director Topolino- Panini Comics, Marco Gervasio, Disney author and Tito Faraci, Disney screenwriter) and an academic figure will give witness on the evolution of language in the world of Disney; an in-depth study on the new dynamics brought to the advent of graphic novels thanks to the dialogue with internationally impacted authors such as Igort, Italian cartoonist, screenwriter and director, Tito Faraci and Barbara Baldi, illustrator and colorist of graphic novels; up to the analysis of one of the most iconic characters of Italian comics, Diabolik, with a 60-year history of publishing and changes in which the Director of Astorina, Mario Gomboli and one of Diabolik's historic designers Giuseppe Palumbo will intervene.

The live events and a digital exhibiton will be available free of charge, in Italian and English, on the www.romics.it site and on the sites of the participating Italian cultural and diplomatic offices, from October 19 to November 15, 2020.

This event focuses on the evolution of narration and language in comic series relating to Italian and international iconic characters. Protagonist of this appointment is Disney Italia and its innovative and international impact on comic productions. The meeting explores the main changes related to both language and narrative rhythms, also in relation to the impact of changes underway in other media.

A presentation by a representative of The Walt Disney Family Museum (San Francisco) is expected.

Script and drawing, the alchemy of a comic story. A dialogue to discover what happens behind the scenes of a comic book and what relationship is established between screenwriter and designer, so as to arrive at that extraordinary alchemy between story and image.

Diabolik will be featured as the protagonist with the live creation of a mini-story of the King of Terror created specifically for the occasion.

Graphic novels, narrative impact, the introduction of new narrative languages ​​and rhythms. In the first event there will be a discussion on the changes taking place linked to the increasing popularity of graphic novels, which, in the last ten years, have imposed themselves on a wider audience of traditional comic book readers.
