The five singers in Mezzotono perform completely a cappella and with a comical approach, encouraging audience participation in a nice and never pushy way.
Their aim is to cover Italian songs in as many styles as possible, ranging from jazz to pop, bossa nova, mambo, tango, and folklore, showing that with the voices, it is possible to do everything. Entertainment and humour are at the heart of each show. In a few words, the Mezzotono show is a mix of Italian culture, entertainment and quality music.
International performances include the Dubai Jazz Festival, many tours in China, the Cairo Opera House, the London Jazz Festival, the Boston Green Festival, Jornadas Musicales del Norte in Chile and Argentina, and tours in 12 African nations, Japan and South Korea.
Mezzotono also produces the LEVANTE A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL, with more than 4.000 people attending every year.
The group has had a lot of international recognition, receiving a nomination for the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards in Boston (USA) for the “Best Humor Song” category.
Presented by the Embassy of Italy in Canada, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura – Toronto and Montreal.
SING! Toronto International Vocal Arts Festival
Started in 2011 on a shoestring budget with seven enthusiasts, SING! The Toronto Vocal Arts Festival is Canada’s premier a cappella festival (singing without instruments). Held every year in May, SING! presents ten days of outstanding concerts featuring the human voice. SING! brings together thousands of professional singers (Canadian and international), students, teachers, divas and in-the-shower belters.
The aim is to:
- Create a safe space for learning
- Illustrate that the voice has no limits – knows no constraints of genre, language or cultural background
- Ask participants to step outside their comfort zones and try something new
- Educate and inspire today’s youth
- Foster a new and revitalized patronage for the vocal arts
