Italo Calvino

On the occasion of the Week of the Italian Language in the World 2023, and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Italo Calvino’s birth, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura – Toronto is pleased to present an exhibition and a book talk by Prof. Paolo Granata

BOOK TALK

Six Memos for a Hyperconnected World: The Lasting Legacy of Italo Calvino

Lightness, Exactitude, Quickness, Visibility, Multiplicity, and Consistency are the six values, the six qualities at the heart of Six Memos for the Next Millennium, known as Lezioni Americane, the last work, left unfinished, by Italo Calvino. Read through the eyes of today, as we mark the centenary year of this great Italian writer, these six keywords offer a previously unseen narrative to understanding the contemporary hyper-connected world.

In this talk, through a number of evocative literary insights, Paolo Granata presents his latest book which explores the virtues and recaptures the essence of Calvino’s Lezioni Americane, offering a fresh and insightful narrative to make sense of the technological complexities of our era.

EXHIBITION

Calvino qui e altrove | Calvino here and elsewhere

An exhibition which through a series of panels takes the visitor on a guided visual journey of the covers of Italo Calvino’s most celebrated books.   This itinerary aims to retrace the books’ journey around the world through the translations in different languages and illustrate the vast international success of the author.
