Apparent Horizon. Art exhibition by Marisa Albanese

Marisa Albanese | Apparent Horizon

Olga Korper Gallery

March 27 – April 27, 2019

Opening Saturday, March 30th 2pm-5pm

Horizon: the line at the farthest place that you can see, where the sky seems to touch the land or sea.

This entire body of work begins with and is inspired by the line.

The horizon line, which links two elements – the earth and the sky – elements that will never unite.

The horizon line is the utopia to which every artist tends.

The manifold becoming of the lines of the horizon and their superposition can be compared to the continuous stratification of subjective glances, personal horizons on the reality that surrounds us. This phenomenon also occurs naturally in crystals, where there is an organic stratification of mineral elements.

The artist thus develops a reflection on the results of the composition of these lines that leads her to a minimal expressive synthesis where each work marks the approach to a different place and spiritual dimension.

The exhibition, therefore, will focus on the multiplication of the lines of apparent horizons, such as those of Blind drawings made with graphite or coal, or on the time that passes and is layered as in the overlapping of the sheets in the Paperlines.

Description of the works on exhibition:

Arbre, 4 sculptures in resin –

Four geometric solids crossed by the subtle shape of a tree that gradually pierces its surface, retracing all its history in the matter.

Horizons: 10 drawings (blind drawing) on paper –

Drawings, lines made with graphite and coal, the two sequences are part of the Blind drawings series that generate visual textures of delicate texure. In some cases traces of small branches or small growing trees appear that stand out on the horizon and that, like the lines of the drawings, develop and grow in a rhizomatic form. The root moves in the earth in a similar way to the branches that open to the sky and both become signs and metaphor of a multiplication of space that, like the horizon, seems static but in reality is always in flux, in motion.

#Painting, 10 acrylic paintings on canvas –

The synthesis of overlapping lines gives shape to a rich plot in which the multiple and layered vision is concentrated in a continuous horizon.

Tower, 8 sculptures in aluminum and minerals –

Overlapping simple, geometric volumes, they welcome crystals and minerals that, in the holistic view, contribute to human well-being. The form refers to the ancestral form of the totem that holds in itself, making itself guardian, the material stratified in the various minerals.

M.L.K. and N.M. (Paperline Gardeners series) –

Necessary movement, like the one asked by the observer to be able to see the portraits of Martin L. King and Nelson Mandela on the margins of the sheets of papers, a change of point of view that is once again mirrored by the change that the people portrayed were engines and witnesses.

Layers, 2 photographic prints –

Overlapping of wood sheets, plywood boards. Wooden blocks that are geometrical, telling about themselves and their transformations
