The Week of the Italian Cuisine in the World is an annual event dedicated to showcasing and promoting Italian cuisine and high-quality agri-food products, organized by our network of Embassies, Consulates, Italian Cultural Institutes, and ICE offices around the world.

The theme of the 11th edition is Italian cooking, UNESCO Heritage:  territories and value chains of excellence.

As part of this year’s celebrations, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto will host a presentation on Italian-Canadian Foodways by Prof. Teresa Lobalsamo (University of Toronto Mississauga).

Participants will explore “Italian-Canadian Foodways” as a journey rooted in the traditions and lived experiences of Italian immigrants who helped shape what is now understood as Italian food in North America. The presentation considers food as an expression of cultural identity and belonging, from the home to public spaces such as Little Italy neighbourhoods, while tracing changing perceptions of Italian cuisine over time. Professor Lobalsamo will draw on research conducted across Italy and North America, which also informs her forthcoming textbook, Italian Culture through Food, and Italian-Canadian Foodways, a digital archive that documents the culinary contributions of Italian Canadians.

Presented by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto.
