An exhibition celebrating the dialogue between the heritage of Italian high craftsmanship and the poetic vision of Alighiero Boetti.
At its heart, leading figures of Italian artisanal excellence engage in dialogue with the work of Alighiero Boetti, exploring the subtle boundary between contemporary art and the highest level of craftsmanship. In this exchange, everyday objects rooted in traditional techniques acquire a new artistic dimension, where art is understood as a form of creative expression capable of conveying ideas and emotions.
Through unique works created by master artisans from various fields of Italian excellence, the project explores the fertile ground at the intersection of art, material, and creative thought. It reveals that technical know-how is not only execution, but also expressive language, research, and creative force.
Alighiero Boetti (Turin, 1940 – Rome, 1994), one of the leading figures of Arte Povera and a key representative of Italian conceptual art in the second half of the 20th century, developed an artistic practice grounded in the notions of order and disorder, play, language, connections, and multiplicity. Within this conceptual horizon, each exhibited work freely reinterprets a fragment of his imaginative world. Combining traditional techniques with contemporary sensibilities, the works create a dialogue between artisanal memory and artistic vision.
The works on display celebrate timeless craftsmanship, enhanced by the spirit of innovation and the creative boldness of the invited master artisans: Bianco Bianchi, Caporali, Vanessa Cavallaro, Sileno Cheloni, Fonderia Artistica Leonardo Del Giudice, Fabscarte, Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio, Pino Grasso Ricami, HF, L’Ippogrifo Stampe d’Arte, Gabriele Maselli, Saskia, and Leonardo Scarpelli.
This exhibition is an invitation to discover the essence of authentic ‘Made in Italy’. Here, the master’s hand does not merely execute it thinks, it explores, it becomes culture.
Presented by Villa Charities in partnership with Maestri Artifex, the Embassy of Italy in Canada, and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto.
