“La Musica è Pericolosa (Music is Dangerous) “, Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani’s concert

An evening of music and reflection on a lifelong career in the spotlight; renowned Italian musician will share with Canadians some of his most memorable pieces and unreleased works at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Recipient of the 1998 Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score for his work on Roberto Benigni’s Life is Beautiful, Nicola Piovani will grace the stage of the TIFF Bell Lightbox at 8PM on June 20th for a private concert; an event proudly organized by the Consolato Generale d’Italia a Toronto, the ICFF (presented by IC Savings), Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and TD Toronto Jazz Festival and and Fondazione Musica per Roma.

La Musica è Pericolosa (Music is Dangerous) is the title of the event, as well as his autobiography released in 2014. The audience will be delighted to find the maestro at his piano, accompanied by a small orchestra at Toronto’s famous TIFF Bell Lightbox, playing previously unreleased theatrical tracks as well as some of his most celebrated works, spanning his five-decade long career. Piovani will narrate the path that led him to collaborate with some of the most influential film directors in history.

Pianist, conductor and composer of film and theatre scores, Nicola Piovani is a Rome native who rose to international fame following his 1998 Oscar win for Best Original Score forLa Vita è Bella” (Life is Beautiful). He has won more than a dozen other prizes, including three David di Donatello awards and a Golden Globe for Lifetime Achievement. He has written more than one hundred and fifty film scores, working with some of the most famous Italian directors, including the legendary Federico Fellini, who commissioned Piovani for three films: Ginger e Fred, Intervista and La Voce della Luna. He even went on to write a ballet dedicated to Fellini.

The world-renowned Italian musician and award-winning film composer will perform as part of Fare Cinema, an initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The concert will mark the closing of the 2019 edition of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival presented by IC Savings, and the opening of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura summer program. Tickets for the spectacular event are now on sale to the public.
