Italian Language and Media in Toronto

The general theme of “The Week of Italian Language in the World 2018” (from October 15 to 18) is “Italian and the Network, the Networks for Italian” and it represents an important reflection on Italian language and culture in the media.

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Toronto, the University of Toronto, the University of Toronto, Mississauga Campus and York University have organized a one-day seminar on the linguistic-educational role media has had in the past and still have today for Italian language and culture, both in Italy and in Canada.

The seminar will look at Italian on the web from a general point of view with regards to communication of the past and present, abating the involvement of new and old media used by today’s youth and older generations. In other words, to look at the educational role that television, radio, newspaper, Netflix, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter have on Italian worldwide besides that of being a “simple communication instrument”.

The event will open with Prof. Silvana Ferreri, Linguistics Department at the Università della Tuscia in Viterbo, who will trace the fundamental steps that have characterized this Italian innovative linguistic process, beginning from the role played by TV, radio, printed press.
