Vesuvius Ensemble 2019/2020 concert series: “So You Wanna Be Americano?” Intro to Italian Swing.

The fifth and last performance of the 2019/2020 season will pay a tribute to ITALIAN SWING: as Southern Italy became Americanized in the years following World War II, this traditional rural society saw their young people playing baseball, smoking Camel cigarettes, and drinking whisky & sodas. The infectious rhythms of swing and early rock & roll penetrated the music scene in the Old Country. Parents’ hair turned gray as their children danced to a new beat!
