On the occasion of the 2026 edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, we are pleased to announce the launch of Tra le righe, the Institute’s new Book Club dedicated to contemporary Italian fiction, presented in collaboration with Librissimi – Toronto Italian Book Festival. The Book Club will offer an opportunity to discover contemporary Italian authors and novels, read their works in the original language, and share ideas and perspectives on literature and Italian society today.

The first meeting will be dedicated to Come radici. Una storia sulle seconde possibilità, by Nicola Gratteri and Antonio Nicaso, published by Mondadori in 2026 and winner of the Premio Flaiano Speciale per la Narrativa.
We are particularly pleased to welcome Antonio Nicaso, who will join us for the event and guide readers through the novel’s central themes, its origins, and the ideas and objectives that shaped its writing.
The discussion will be moderated by the Director of the Institute, Prof. Alberta Lai.
The Book Club is open to everyone with an interest in Italian literature and culture: avid readers, students of Italian, and anyone wishing to discover contemporary Italian fiction and share the experience of reading and discussing it in a welcoming and engaging setting.
We look forward to welcoming you to this first gathering dedicated to reading, conversation, and cultural exchange, and to launching together a new space for contemporary Italian fiction, in collaboration with the Librissimi Festival.
ABOUT ANTONIO NICASO
Antonio Nicaso teaches courses on the social history of organized crime and Mafia culture at Queen’s University. An expert on mafias, he has published more than 60 books and has also written documentaries, television programs, and TV series. Come radici, co-authored with Nicola Gratteri, is his second novel for young readers.
ABOUT THE WEEK OF THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD
The Week of the Italian Language in the World, established in 2001 and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is an annual celebration of Italian as a language of both classical and contemporary culture. Held each October under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, the program features conferences, exhibitions, performances, and meetings with writers and cultural figures, engaging Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes around the world.
