MOZART MASS IN C MINOR: DIRECTED BY IVARS TAURINS AND ELISA CITTERIO, VIOLIN

“Mozart at his most inspired” – The New York Times

Mozart’s transcendent Mass in C Minor, considered to be one of his greatest choral works, closes our 2016/17 season. A celebration of the composer’s marriage that was left unfinished for reasons we may never know, this piece contains an extraordinary range of style and depth of expression. Acclaimed British sopranos Julia Doyle and Joanne Lunn are featured alongside the orchestra and Tafelmusik Chamber Choir in this fitting third and final concert celebrating the choir’s 35th anniversary.

The program opens with Tafelmusik’s debut performance of Haydn’s spirited Symphony no. 98, composed in London and thought by many to be a tribute to his compatriot and friend, Mozart. The “brilliant and refined” (Critica Classica) violinist Elisa Citterio returns for the second time this season to lead this piece.
