“Matera” is based on Martinello’s recent travels to the 2019 European Capital of Culture: the ancient city of Matera in Southern Italy.
Born in the Toronto suburbs as a first generation Canadian, Martinello travels to locations in a continued effort to explore her Mexican and Italian heritage. Martinello spends months in foreign cities recording her experience by making sketches, taking notes and recording videos. She then uses this material later in her Toronto studio to reenact the sights and sounds of her travels.
Opens on Thursday, June 7 – 6-8 PM.
Runs until Saturday June 30.
Linda is available for interviews in advance of the exhibition’s opening on Thursday, June 7th.
