ICFF Befana (Activities and film screening) – A children’s Italian holiday tradition!

A FUN EVENT FOR ALL AGES – Bring your children, your grandchildren, your neighbours and your students… to the inaugural edition of ICFF Befana in Vaughan, a collaborative effort between L’Altra Italia, ICFF Youth and the City of Vaughan! This special event is the perfect conclusion to the holiday season, and a great way to share one of the oldest traditions in Italian history with the little ones in your family.

The afternoon begins with a multitude of activities, games and crafts, geared towards children aged 7-13, followed by a live presentation by the old “Befana” herself, and a screening of Stefano Fresi’s film “La befana vien di notte” (The Legend of the Christmas Witch) , a modern recounting of the ancient legend that is sure to captivate the hearts of audiences young and old.

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, a proponent of Italian culture and the preservation of our heritage, welcomes residents to the epicentre of the city on January 5th to celebrate this unique and “sweet” Italian tradition.

**Pre-event registration online is FREE of charge. Walk-ins on event day will be charged a fee of $20 each. Limited tickets available. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

LA BEFANA

In Italian folklore, La Befana is the old woman who delivers gifts to children throughout Italy on January 5th, the eve of Epiphany. If they’ve been good, she fills the children’s socks with candies and gifts, but if they’ve been naughty, they will find a lump of coal instead.
