FESTA DELLA REPUBBLICA ITALIANA (REPUBLIC DAY – ITALY)

Each year, on June 2nd, Italy celebrates its birth as a republic, having abolished the monarchy via the Constitutional Referendum held on this day in 1946.

This year, on the 74th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic, the orchestra and choir of the historical Italian musical academy, Accademia Chigiana (Siena), have dedicated to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation a remotely synchronized performance of Italy’s national anthem, “Il canto degli Italiani” (also known as the Inno di Mameli), written by Goffredo Mameli.

Taking part in the recording were 108 musicians comprising students, teachers and collaborators of the Academy, including renowned, international classical performers such as Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Antonio Meneses, David Geringas, Alessandro Carbonare, Pino Ettorre, Luca Sanzò, Francesco Dillon, Matteo Cesari, Paolo Ravaglia, Giulio Rovighi and the Nous Quartet.

Celebrate with us as you enjoy this performance of the Italian National Anthem.
