The Istituto Italiano di Cultura is pleased to support a talk by Carlo Ratti, curator of EDIT’s Shelter/Cities exhibit. Ratti explores how we can bring nature back into urban areas – from the home to the metropolis.

In his trailblazing work at MIT, Carlo Ratti has created such works as Underworlds (which taps sewage for data) and Treepedia (which you can experience in his Shelter/Cities exhibit for EDIT). As founding partner of the international design and innovation office Carlo Ratti Associati, based in Turin with branches in Boston and London, he has realized for such projects as The Supermarket of the Future, where data-enabled display systems demonstrate the provenance of each item of food; and the redesign of the Agnelli Foundation’s offices with micro-climate bubbles calibrated to employees’ needs. He holds several patents and has co-authored over 500 publications, including The City of Tomorrow. As well as being a regular contributor to Project Syndicate, he has written for international media including The New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, Scientific American, the BBC, Il Sole 24 Ore, La Stampa, Corriere della Sera, and Domus. His work has been exhibited worldwide at venues such as the Venice Biennale, the Design Museum Barcelona, the Science Museum in London, MAXXI in Rome, and MoMA in New York City.
