Illustrated talk by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator at The Museum of Modern Art in the Department of Architecture & Design, as well as MoMA’s founding Director of Research & Development.
Antonelli has curated numerous shows, lectured worldwide, and has served on several international architecture and design juries. Her Founder’s Lecture talk will be inspired by her upcoming exhibition “Items: Is Fashion Modern?” which will be on view at MoMA from October 1, 2017–January 28, 2018.
Drawing from the exhibition, Antonelli will consider the ways in which fashion is designed, manufactured, distributed, worn and disposed of today. Investigating the past and future of 111 items that have a strong impact on history and society in the 20th and 21st centuries, Antonelli examines the many relationships between fashion and functionality, cultural etiquettes, aesthetics, politics, labour, identities, economies and technology.
