Come and enjoy Sotto una buona stella (Under a lucky star), the outstanding dinner events featuring some of the best chefs from Italy.
On Wednesday, February21, experience the exceptional cuisine of Michelin-starred Chef Caterina Ceraudo of Dattilo Restaurant, located in Crotone, Calabria, in the centre of the Ceraudo family vineyards and 1,200-year-old olive grove, as she collaborates with Chef Rob Gentile at Buca Osteria & Bar in Yorkville.
After studying oenology in Tuscany for four years and becoming an expert sommelier, Ms. Ceraudo fell in love with another side of the hospitality business – cooking. She moved to Castel di Sangro in Abruzzo where she worked with chefb (owner of three Michelin-starred restaurant Reale) at his culinary school. Her time there formed Caterina into a fully-fledged chef with a deep understanding of techniques, ingredients and flavour combinations.
Caterina worked across Italy and Bordeaux in France, before deciding to return home to her family’s restaurant – Dattilo –making it her own. The Calabrian countryside offers inspiration to Ceraudo’s cooking style, too. Seafood, lamb, veal and local cheeses are common sights on her menus. She tends to keep things simple, only adding things to the dish if they enhance the flavours of the star ingredients. Her dedication and passion earned Chef. Ceraudo to be named the best female Italian chef by the Michelin Guide 2017.

“Sotto una buona stella” (Under a lucky star) began in 2015 and is presented by the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura (IIC) and the Italian Trade Commission in partnership with George Brown College. This unique series brings some of Italy’s top chefs to Toronto to present their food philosophy, engage students at George Brown College and to host a dinner with Chef Rob Gentile at Buca.
