Special Event: Italian Renaissance Dinner

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura in collaboration  Cucinato Italian Culinary Studio  is pleased to present this special culinary event in Toronto. It’s part of the 3rd annual “Settimana della Cucina Italiana nel Mondo” (World Italian Food Week), an international initiative by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs promoting quality Italian gastronomy.

Join us for this special event that will take you back to the Italian Renaissance, hosted by internationally renowned author, professor, food historian, and culinary instructor Karima Moyer-Nocchi, our guest chef for this evening’s meal.

In her own words, Dr. Moyer-Nocchi’s passion is to “take [historical] recipes apart, scrutinize the bits and pieces, and then put them back together, breathing new life into them and broadening your perspective about Italian food through the ages.”

To construct tonight’s 7-dish tasting menu she has drawn on seminal Renaissance works like Scappi’s Opera (1570) and Castelvetro’s The Fruit, Herbs and Vegetables of Italy (1614).

Dr. Moyer-Nocchi will give a brief presentation about Italian Renaissance cuisine prior to the meal, and during the course of the meal she’ll explain the role of each of the 7 dishes in the evolution of Italian foodways.
