Born in Ferrara, Italy, 1975, Luca Dell’Anna studied classical and jazz piano in Ferrara and then Rome with Bruno Cesselli, Andrea Beneventano, Enrico Pieranunzi, Stefano Sabatini, Stefano Bollani, first experience as a professional live musician when he was 19, he lives in Milano, Italy since 1999.

He collaborates with many musicians in jazz projects. The latest one is Martino Vercesi’s “Virgo Supercluster” featuring Sandro Cerino on reeds and Tony Arco on drums. Amongst his collaborations are remarkable those with Adam Rapa, Ares Tavolazzi, Walter Calloni, Mauro Negri, Israel Varela, Zane Wayne Massey, Fabio Concato, Chris Bennett, Giorgio di Tullio & the Four Cells Quintet, the Black Beat Movement, Triad Vibration, the Cuban Trumpet Player Gendrickson Mena, Marco Mariani’s sextet, with which he records the album “Jazz & Movies 2” and participates to many jazz festivalsincluding italian “MI-TO”, then again: the project “Rootless” with Francesco Bigoni and Danilo Gallo, founder of “El Gallo Rojo” Collective. With Adam Rapa he has many active collaborations such as Elisabeth Vik’s album “Beginnings”, with Ivo Barbieri, Alfredo Paixao and Israel Varela, dedicated to Edvard Grieg’s music and Norwegian popular music. He has recorded many albums, such as “Tan T’Ien – the fourth Door” with Francesco Cusa and Ivo Barbieri awarded amongst the first 3 best jazz albums for the year 2013 by the japanese “The Jazz Critique” Magazine. Also with Francesco Cusa he was in his trio “The Assassins” , participating with them at the “Acacia Jazz Festival” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. With Adam Rapa and Elisabeth Vik he was in Japan playing in his Musical Show “Evolution” in Nagoya’s Century Hall, recording a big success and sold-out every re-run. He was in the orchestra with a cast of artists including musicians from the show “Blast” and award-winning acrobats from Le Cirque Du Soleil. He’s also co-founder of the project “Zancle” with Serena Ferrara and Ivo Barbieri dedicated to the mix between jazz and mediterranean sounds. He collaborates withe African Collective “Couleurs Du Monde” and “The Singer Project” with the Camerun percussionist and singer Daniel Kollé. Again with Israel Varela he has recorded in 2013histrioalbum“Mana”,containinghis compositions, a tribute to his passion for south-american and in particular Cuban music. Following the wave of popularity gained in Japan by “Tan T’Ien”, “Mana” and “Symbiont” are now very popular on the japanese market: The song “Abre Los Ojos” from his album “Mana” ha been included in the compilation “Jazz Bar 2014” and the song “Struggle Through Lucubration” has been included in the compilation “For Jazz Audio Fans Only vol.7” both selected by the Japanese critic Yasukuni Terashima, one of the most appreciated Japanese Jazz Critics. He has been invited as a guest in theinternational conference “Nauji vejai“ (“Winds bringChanges“) in Palanga, Lituania, in duo with Adam Rapa for the closing concert. He has been invited at the “Suisse Diagonales Jazz Festival” in Lugano, Switzerland, with his trio. He is featured in the last edition of italian “Jazz Who’s Who” : “Dizionario del Jazz Italiano” by Flavio Caprera (Feltrinelli, 2014). In May 25 , 2015 he publishes his CD “Symbiont” withDanilo Gallo and Michele Salgarello. http://www.lucadellanna.net He is member of Walter Calloni’s Funk Trio playing Hammond Organ with Luca Pasqua on guitar and Alessandro Carreri’s “AC Remake Quartet” with Mauro Negri on Sax and Clarinet and Maxx Furian on drums. With Serena Ferrara he tours inChina with the project “Zancle”, performing in jazzfestivals in Shenzhen, Shunde, Guangzhou, and at Golden Jazz Club in Zuhai. He has been invited at Minsk Jazz Festival, Belarus, with the sax player Zane Wayne Massey from USA and Vadim Mikhailov , Sergey Korotkov from St.Petersburg. The italian Magazine “Jazzit” has published full-page articles with review of “Symbiont” and “Mana”. Like Tan T’Ien, Symbiont has been awarded amongst the best jazz albums in 2015 by the Japanese Magazine “The Jazz Critique Magazine”. Recently is also been invited in Ukraine at Odessa Jazz festival 2016 and in 2017 in Slovakia with the Sessionmen Filip Kluknavský, Martin Lechman, Brano Valanský and in Serbia in Kragujevac Jazz Festival 2017 with his new quartet featuring Massimiliano Milesi on sax, Danilo Gallo on Bass and Alessandro Rossi on drums.

 

Rich Brown has been an active member of Toronto’s culturally diverse music scene since 1992. Influences such as Jaco Pastorius, Victor Bailey, Jimmy Haslip, and Alain Caron fuelled his passion for bass at the age of 17. Rich is currently touring around the globe with the band Samdhi led by New York based sax-man Rudresh Mahanthappa. He has also performed and recorded with some of the finest musicians in the world including jazz vocalist Carol Welsman, Jane Siberry, Glenn Lewis, Dapp Theory, Steve Coleman & 5 Elements, James ‘Blood’ Ulmer, Vernon Reid, Andy Narrell, Bruce Cockburn, Marc Jordan, Kim Mitchell, and David Clayton Thomas (of Blood, Sweat, & Tears) to name a few.

Rich also dabbles in the film industry and has appeared in the feature film “Glitter” starring Mariah Carey, the made for TV movie “The Natalie Cole Story” starring Natalie Cole, as well as the television series “Soul Food”.

Our local artist also leads his own band, Rinse The Algorithm, which was nominated for “Electric Group of the Year” three years in a row (’07, ’08, ’09) at the National Jazz Awards and won the Galaxie Rising Star prize in 2010. He has appeared on over 60 recordings ranging from Jazz to Funk to Latin to traditional Asian and Arabic music.

Rich plays both an F Bass VF5 & a VF6.

 

Hailing from Portugal, Marito Marques is an accomplished musician and respected composer, he takes the sounds of the world into his soul to produce melodies that bring the audience together in an unparalleled unity. Born July 11, 1987 in Arganil, Portugal, Marques began playing the drums at the age of 2, quickly moving on to live performances, including television appearances at 5 years old. Marques pursued his formal instruction at CETM in Coimbra, Portugal. Afterward, Marques moved to New York City to further his studies at the Drummers’ Collective and later at the Manhattan School of Music where he studied under some of the best instructors the school had to offer, including John Riley, Kendrick Scott, Ignacio Berroa or Greg Hutchinson.

Taking his influences from African roots music, jazz, and pop, Marques makes compelling music that is as beautiful to listen to as it is nourishing for the soul. In 2013, he released his debut album ‘Magic Everywhere’ with collaborations from some of the most respected names in music, including Anna Maria Jopek, Gregoire Maret, Mino Cinelu, Ron Westray, Munir Hossn and Yami. His second album “Live at Revolution”, released on Nov 11th, 2014 is a 3-track live in-studio recording. Marito Marques on drums, alongside his Canadian quartet and quintet, Robi Botos on piano, Kelly Jefferson playing the saxophone, Michael Shand on keyboards/piano, and Ian de Souza and Alex St. Kitts joining in on bass.

The fresh and third album entitled ‘Na Eira’ that means “threshing floor” was released on November 22, 2016. The album was recorded in 4 countries, combining the efforts of 15 musicians, in-turn encompassing 10 different nationalities. ‘Na Eira’ is a global effort that fosters the similarities and celebrates the differences between cultures to create a unifying sound. Marques hasn’t strayed from his passion of collaboration and the original melding of sounds, cultures, talents, instruments, and genres creating a connection between people and continents. The album is strongly influenced by Marques’ birth country Portugal and takes further inspiration from the PALOP countries, it was recorded in France, Spain, Portugal, and largely in Marques’ now-home Toronto, Canada. ‘Na Eira’ also has significant contributors from varying places in between, including; Jorge Pardo, world renowned Spanish flutist, who contributes to two-songs as well as performances from Woz Kaly, Senegalese singer, on an additional two-songs. As the composer and producer Marques’ ambitious and collective spirit are highlighted in his ability to combine the talents of international musicians.

Currently living in Toronto, Marques is considered one of the most requested and versatile drummers in Europe and Canada, having performed World Tours with artists in the most diverse music genres; some of which include two Grammy Winners Ivan Lins and Carlos do Carmo, the Grammy nominees Helik Hadar, Adonis Puentes, Hilario Duran and Jeff Coffin, Anna Maria Jopek, Mino Cinelu. Larnell Lewis, Gregoire Maret, The Wilderness of Manitoba and Sara Tavares. He is endorsed by Pro Mark, Evans, Yamaha Drums, Zildjian, Red Clay, Sontronics Microphone and Kalimba Magic.
