Silvia Mandolini:

Silvia Mandolini, violinist, was born in Montreal in 1970. She was a student of Raymond Dessaints and Johanne Arel at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, where she graduated, and Mauricio Fuks at the McGill University School of Music. In Canada she was a member of the Orchester Baroque de Montréal and of the Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal. She went to  Italy in 1994, she obtained her violin diploma at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. Later she worked with chamber groups such as Il Quartettone, Tactus Ensemble, Divertimento Ensemble, and Virtuosi Italiani.

As an orchestral player she has played with the San Remo Symphony Orchestra, the Verona Arena Orchestra, the Rai National Symphony Orchestra in Turin, the Teatro Comunale Orchestra of Bologna, the Teatro Verdi Orchestra of Trieste, the National Orchestra of the Academy of Santa Cecilia. She has been a regular member of the violin section at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna since 2008. Particularly interested in contemporary music for violin she has devoted much study to solo violin and piano and violin works, performing alone or flanked by the Canadian pianist Brigitte Poulin in London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Bologna, Naples, Cesena, Nice, Thunder Bay, Guelph, Ottawa, Vancouver, Ithaca (N.- Y.) and in Venice for the last edition of the Music Biennale. Furthermore, in 2008 she played Italian and Canadian contemporary music for the Milano Musica festival, for the Vancouver New Music season, and in the past years invited as a soloist by the Canadian national radio CBC to the Sound Symposium Festival, many times live for the Radio-Canada radio. and finally solo with the Victoria Symphony for a first performance for violin and strings. She played the music for the soundtracks of Giovanni Venosta for Silvio Soldini’s films such as Le Acrobate and Pane e Tulipani
