Michael Occhipinti with special guest Laura Campisi at Luminato Festival

Michael Occhipinti and Laura Campisi will perform on June 20-21-22 at Luminato Festival, Toronto’s international arts festival dedicated to performance, media and visual arts.

The two Italian artists will perform with The Ward Cabaret, a group of stellar Toronto artists created in 2016 by Buchbinder, inspired by The Ward (Coach House Books). After selling out at Soulpepper and Lula Lounge, the book’s editors, along with Buchbinder, Marjorie Chan, Andrew Craig, and Michael Occhipinti – three musicians and a playwright representing four of the five cultures of The Ward – are reimagining the songs, music and stories of The Ward in order to explore the cultural roots of what has become the most diverse city on the planet.

Laura Campisi

“On her debut album she attempts something fairly daring: singing against a stark background of electric bass and drums. Fortunately, Campisi pulls it off, thanks to her sweet-toned, sturdy voice, precise pitch, lilting delivery and first-rate support from two duos”
