To celebrate the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s passing, the Embassy of Italy in Canada and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto, in collaboration with Jobel Art for Earth, present an original multidisciplinary online event.

All over the world, thousands of events are bringing to life Dante’s work and its connections with our contemporary world.

Universally recognized as the “Supreme Poet”, Dante is the tangible expression of medieval culture and a man of great cultural importance at a global level. Indeed, Dante was not only a man of letters, a poet and a writer, but also a linguist, a scholar of theology and philosophy, and a politician who profoundly influenced Italian language and literature and, without any doubt, all of Western culture with his work and his life.

DANTE’S PERSPECTIVE is a multidisciplinary event to appreciate Dante’s poetry from three different perspectives: politics, nature, and love. Princeton Professor and author Simone Marchesi will guide the audience in new approaches to Dante, and the artists from Jobel Art for Earth will bring to life some of the most famous and beautiful of Dante’s verses. Woven throughout will be a storyline tracing some of the more mysterious aspects of Dante’s life.

The original concept has been designed, for this special occasion, by Jobel Art for Earth Creative Director Lorenzo Cognatti. This event aims to pique our curiosity about Dante as a man and artist and to deepen the experience of reading The Divine Comedy and his other works.

Although the current context does not yet allow us to gather in person, the performing arts and Dante’s poetry have the power to overcome the barriers of a screen and touch our imagination.

Presented in Italian and English
