“Immersive Van Gogh”

“Drive & Gogh”

World’s First Immersive Drive In Exhibit

The monumental exhibition, Immersive Van Gogh, was set to make its world premiere in Toronto this week to welcome audiences to a 600,000 cubic ft. immersive digital art experience featuring a curated selection of imagery from van Gogh’s 2000+ catalogue of masterpieces. As a result of the restrictions on large public gatherings, the drive-in concept was created to offer a visually striking immersive art experience, while maintaining public safety.

Immersive van Gogh will open its Drive & Gogh currently slated for mid-June, that will allow patrons to drive into the rarely seen historic space of the Toronto Star’s former printing presses at 1 Yonge Street. The expansive venue will be able to accommodate only 14 vehicles per timeslot for participants to park, turn off their engines, and enjoy a 35-minute show from inside their cars featuring an all-encompassing experience of art, light, sound, movement and imagination that evokes the highly emotional and chaotic inner consciousness of one of the greatest artists of all time.

The exhibition is designed by the Italian master creators of Atelier des Lumières, who originated the digital art experience in Paris seen by more than 2 million people worldwide. Massimiliano Siccardi (Creative Director) and Luca Longobardi (Composer) have been working from their studios in Italy and Germany, with the creative support of Toronto-based contractors, designers and technical stagehands to prepare Immersive van Gogh.

“Van Gogh’s art never stops inspiring and challenging me as an artist”, says Siccardi. “I am honoured to have the opportunity to collaborate with Luca (Longobardi) once again to bring Van Gogh’s vast catalogue of work to life in an entirely new experience that offers an unprecedented understanding of his world”.

What Luca Longobardi says of his work for Immersive Van Gogh: “Immersive art is a very complex concept. Immersive indicates a deep commitment of intentions which connect images and sounds in a way that the audience is able to experience a different perception about the art. The music does not overpower the images but allows a diverse approach to them, one that is more personal and intimate. I have been involved in fifteen other immersive shows with Massimiliano but I think this Van Gogh, this Vincent of ours, is perhaps the most honest and true work done so far.”

Drive & Gogh is currently SOLD OUT but there is a waiting list. Patrons who purchase tickets to the drive-in preview will also receive tickets to the walk-in experience of Immersive van Gogh, which opens in July.

Producers do hope for a July opening but will work closely with all public health and government protocols to ensure a safe opening for the public.
