MM Contemporary Dance Company – North American Premiere

The Italian MM Contemporary Dance Company comes to the Chutzpah! stage in Vancouver with the inventive and provocative choreographies of two twentieth century universally known musical scores – Maurice Ravel’s Bolero (with integrated contemporary composition from Stefano Corrias) choreographed by Michele Merola and Igor Stravinski’s The Rite of Spring choreographed by Enrico Morelli.

MM Contemporary Dance Company is based in Reggio Emilia, Italy and performs throughout Europe, Asia and South America. Directed by award-winning choreographer Michele Merola, a former dancer with the Toulon Opera House, Aterballetto and Arena di Verona companies, MM Contemporary Dance is made up of exquisite and versatile classically trained contemporary dancers. In addition to choreographing for his own company, Merola has created works for dance companies such as Aterballetto, Balletto di Toscana, Teatro Terazijama, Dominic Walsh Dance Theatre and Teatro Massimo, among others.

Chutzpah! The Lisa Nemetz International Jewish Performing Arts Festival is the Lower Mainland’s winter music, dance, comedy and theatre festival presenting international, national and local artists. The Chutzpah! Festival delivers audiences work that is forward-looking, multi-layered, and entertaining. The upcoming 2018 Festival will run from February 15 to March 15 at the Norman Rothstein Theatre and other venues in and around Vancouver. Over four weeks, we will welcome performers from cultural hubs such as Canada, Bulgaria, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, the USA and Mexico.
