For more information please contact iictoronto.admin@esteri.it<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Certification of Italian as a Second Language (CILS)\u00a0<\/strong>exam\u00a0evaluates one&#8217;s level of knowledge of Italian as a second language.<\/p>\n<p>Exams are for all international students, Italian citizens residing abroad (descendants of Italian emigrants) and foreign immigrants to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>No particular academic title is required to take the exam.<\/p>\n<p>PLEASE NOTE: all information regarding the CILS exams on the website of Universita&#8217; di Siena is provided in Italian only.<\/p>\n<p>The Istituto Italiano di Cultura Toronto is authorized to give these exams through an agreement that the Italian\u00a0<em>Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation<\/em>\u00a0has entered into with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cils.unistrasi.it\/1\/98\/Esami_CILS.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"titoloNotizia\">Universit\u00e0 per Stranieri di Siena\u00a0CILS<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please note that it is not the Istituto Italiano di Cultura that assigns official language certification. The Istituto is only an authorized examination centre that administers the exam on behalf of the University for Foreigners of Siena CILS (Certification Italian as a Foreign Language).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The exams are held as per the schedule established by the University for Foreigners of Siena, who is also responsible for the preparation and correction of the exams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The registration fee for the &#8220;Certification of Italian as a Second Language&#8221; exam is $350 for all exams and is payable upon registration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note that the exam is an assessment of whether the candidate&#8217;s language proficiency reaches a B1 level or not.\u00a0 \u00a0The way to pass the exam is to study the language.\u00a0 The time that it takes to reach a B1 level depends on the individual&#8217;s current level of knowledge.\u00a0 For example, if someone is an absolute beginner it might take 2 years of study to reach B1 level.<\/p>\n<p>Details about the exams, such as what to expect and length, can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cils.unistrasi.it\/1\/98\/Esami_CILS.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Siena CILS website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Applicants are required to check the official University of Siena CILS site often to stay abreast of updates on changes in schedules and test administration, which are at the sole discretion of the University of Siena.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For more information and to book an exam, please write to <a href=\"mailto:IICTORONTO.ADMIN@ESTERI.IT\">IICTORONTO.ADMIN@ESTERI.IT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cils.unistrasi.it\/1\/211\/415\/Le_date_degli_esami_2026.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE CURRENT EXAM DATES FOR THE VARIOUS LEVELS<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Last Update: February 12, 2026<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"CERTIFICATION OF ITALIAN AS A SECOND LANGUAGE IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that we have reached capacity and are no longer accepting registrations for the June 2026 CILS Exam.
